Who Permits Your Roof in Northeast Florida
A roof replacement needs a permit, and in Northeast Florida which office issues it depends on your address. Your Providential project manager handles the permit and the city inspections — here’s who’s on the other side of the counter.
City of Jacksonville (Duval County)
Jacksonville and Duval County are a consolidated government, so the City’s Building Inspection Division permits most of the county. Its list of work requiring a permit includes re-roofs, and all permit applications are now submitted electronically through JaxEPICS.

Do I need a permit to replace my roof in Jacksonville?
Yes. The City of Jacksonville's Building Inspection Division lists re-roofs among the work that requires a permit, and applications are submitted online through JaxEPICS. The Beaches and the Town of Orange Park run their own building departments, and unincorporated Clay County is permitted by the county. What roofing material works best for Jacksonville's climate?
Architectural asphalt shingles are the most common choice for their balance of cost and durability, while standing-seam metal and stone-coated steel are excellent for longevity and for coastal homes exposed to salt air. Not automatically. A roof replacement is the easiest time to improve several features on Florida's wind mitigation form, like deck nailing, a sealed roof deck and roof-to-wall connections, but your insurer decides the credit after an updated inspection form is submitted.
